Woonsocket, RI - $10 1882 Brown Back Fr. 482 National Globe Bank Ch. # 1423An exceptionally attractive and well centered Brown Back with strong black ink signatures. This Extremely Fine note has two vertical folds and would be at home in any collection of Uncirculated notes. Woonsocket was settled in the 1660's when Richard Arnold, Sr., started a saw mill. Its subsequent industrial development was heavily dependent upon ready access to abundant water power. The first of its textile mills, the Social Manufacturing Company, was founded in 1810 and by the 1840's no less than 20 independent textile mills called this city their home, making it one of the largest centers of such activity in the country. The fact that no less than six banks were federally chartered here during the note issuing period gives testimony to its industrial importance at the time. While Brown Backs from Rhode Island are hardly scarce, the exceptional eye appeal of this note should spark considerable bidder interest.
