ALS, two pages on two adjoining sheets, 5.25 x 8, March 18, 1885. Wilson writes Henry R. Waite of Boston. In part: “I have, of course, the very strongest sympathy with the purposes of the Institute of Civics, and I should esteem it a privilege to be accorded a place amongst its lecturers. I am afraid, however, that I cannot promise to be a contributor to the Citizen. My inclination is to promise my cooperation in that part of the enterprise also—for certainly it is one of the best parts of it—; but my engagements are just now such as to forbid my hoping to find time for such writing as I should like to do for the periodical press.” In good condition, with intersecting folds, lengthy notation on the reverse of the second page regarding the contents of the correspondence, and the second adjoining leaf almost entirely separated. Wilson was a visiting lecturer at Cornell University during the 1886-1887 academic year but failed to gain a permanent position, and also received an academic appointment at Bryn Mawr College in 1885.
