Woodrow Wilson TLS 1914
"WINNERS WILL BE NOTIFIED AFTER THE AUCTION ENDS BY THE AUCTIONEER ONCE ALL BIDS HAVE BEEN PROCESSED TO DETERMINE THE WINNER FOR EACH LOT."
Woodrow Wilson typed letter signed as President, on official White House letterhead, dated 24 November 1914, just months after the Great War erupted. Letter is a response to novelist and segregationalist Thomas Dixon on the subject of national defense and the imminence of greater American involvement in World War I. Wilson's language is eerily premonitory as he writes, ''My dear Dixon: Thank you for your letter of November twenty-first, for its generous words about myself and for its frank counsel. I think I feel as deeply as you do the necessity for national defense, and for well considered action in that direction. Just how the thing should be guided is a question which is holding my thought very constantly. In haste / Cordially and sincerely yours, Woodrow Wilson''. Letter, measuring 7'' x 9'', has a single horizontal fold and faint creases at each corner, else fine condition. Includes official 7.25'' x 4.5'' White House envelope with 2c postage. Unlike letter, envelope has significant toning throughout.
