Entirely rare United States Series of 1917 one dollar bill personally used by President Woodrow Wilson, applied by its upper edge to a presentation sheet prepared by noted Baltimore penman and engrosser Samuel Curtis Malone, 10 x 14.25, which reads: ‰ÛÏThis United States one dollar bill, numbered A-71346548-A, is one of two dollars used by Woodrow Wilson President of the United States of America, in his first payment on a fifty dollar bond of the Fourth Liberty Loan Payment made through the Liberty Loan Association of Maryland, October 16th, 1918.‰Û A detailed explanation of Wilson‰Ûªs involvement is penned neatly in the lower section: ‰ÛÏA letter was written to the President inviting him to purchase a fifty dollar coupon book in order to stimulate the sale of bonds. This letter was signed by former Governor Phillips Lee Goldsborogh and immediately dispatched to Washington by special messenger, in the person of Morton McL Dukeheart, who, with the assistance of J. Fred Essary, special representative of the Baltimore Sun, presented the letter to the President and he, with his usual patriotic zeal, signed the card returning it with two one dollar bills being the first payment required by the contract. October 24th, he sent his check for Forty-eight Dollars, paying in full and received his bond.‰Û In fine condition.
