<B>Woodrow Wilson 1918 Medical Appointment</B></I> Signed <I>"Woodrow Wilson"</B></I> as president and <I>"W. G. McAdoo"</B></I> as secretary of the treasury, one page, 16" x 14", Washington, D.C., November 22, 1918. President Wilson appoints Friench Simpson as <I>"Surgeon to rank as such from October 6, 1918".</B></I> Gold seal of the Treasury Department affixed at lower left. William G. McAdoo, Wilson's Secretary of the Treasury from 1913-1918, married President Wilson's daughter Eleanor in 1914; they were divorced in 1934. Double matted with a portrait of Wilson and a metal plaque and framed under glass to an overall size of 35" x 26". An attractive document in fine condition. Dr. Friench Simpson had served aboard the U.S. Revenue Cutter <I>Commodore Perry</B></I> in 1909. In 1894, the ship sailed for San Francisco, around Cape Horn and served off the west coast and in Alaskan waters until 1910 when she sank on Tonki Point off St. Paul Island. Dr. Simpson wrote about his experiences in an article titled "Dr. Friench Simpson, U.S. Public Health Service, Describes his Adventures Aboard the USRC Commodore Perry, in Alaskan Waters, 1909," republished in the journal, "Alaska Medicine", in 2003.
