This is a beautiful figural carved ball head war club from the Iroquois Indians showing a human face ball head and horse head pommel end. The club is carved of one piece of Tiger Maple hardwood and shows a human face and head of an Indian Warrior with early copper mounts, and real horsetail hair (the hair being refurbished / replaced over the years by a previous collector). There are brass tacks and a large center holed that likely held a drop of feathers at one time. The bottom has a hand-carved running horse head pommel end with gripping area the is in-cut and wrapped with brass trade tacks with expected wear. These highly figured carved ball head war club tomahawks are with expert carving in artful form were mainly used as ceremonial and dance clubs with few remaining. Truly a showcase of Eastern Woodlands Indian art. Provenance: From the Ted Levy ex-collection. Measures 19 inches in length.
