This note walked into a west coast coin shop last fall in the company of a few Indian cents and Liberty nickels, along with a circulated Black Eagle and a Woodchopper $5, and after its purchase, was consigned directly to us. This Tulare County bank represents one of California's great remaining rarities, as it was one of the smallest issuers of currency in the state. For many years the bank, which is still unreported in small size, was represented only by one impaired uncut large size sheet, which has never been on the market and likely never will be. For years collectors have dreamt of adding a note from this one bank community to their holdings, but single notes were unreported and, with only $460 outstanding in large notes when the bank entered receivership in 1932, the survival of even one example was highly doubtful. This offering will now give collectors the opportunity they have sought for two generations.
