Thomas Sautelle Roberts (1760 - 1826) was a founder member of the Royal Hibernian Academy. His father was the famous architect John Roberts, designer of both cathedrals in Waterford and also City Hall. Robert's finely detailed West View of the City of Waterford includes a view of the first wooden bridge to span the river Suir. The picturesque nature of the composition elevates this work beyond the merely topographical.
