Wonderful plump least sandpiper decoy by David "Umbrella" Watson (1851-1938), Chincoteague, VA. In good OP with a few dings, rubs, and light wear. About a quarter inch of the bill has been replaced on the end of the right side and a check in the bill has been glued tight. Struck by a few shot. Appears to be very faint painted eyes. Great example from a Duxbury collection. Many of the shorebirds in this collection came from Bill Mackey as did lot 395 and 482. See "Southern Decoys of Virginia and the Carolinas", by Fleckenstein, pg. 85 for examples by this maker. Also see the Ira Hudson book by Henry Stansbury. There is an almost exact example pictured in a color plate on page 21 in "American Bird Decoys by Waingrow. (decoy)

<BR><p>3 - All sales are final except that refunds will be made on lots found to be other than described in this catalog. However, an intention of return must be expressed to the auctioneers within 14 days after you have received your decoy. The decoys need not be returned within 14 days but we must be notified within 14 days of your intention to return them.

<BR><p>4 - The Auctioneers reserve the right to reject any opening bid or bid advance not commensurate with the value of the article being offered.

<BR><p>5 - The Auctioneers reserve the right to withdraw any lot at any time prior to the commencement of bidding for the lot.
