Woman's Suffrage Street Banner
Woman's Suffrage Street Banner. With the emancipation of slaves, women found themselves left behind in every area of government. They had few rights to property but could be taxed and they could not vote. The suffrage movement began in earnest to seek the same rights they had supported for Black Americans. These three banners with cotton lettering on silk material represent what most Suffragettes believed they were entitled to. Each one is 16.75" x 16", rolled at the top and with a metal bar for hanging. The black lettering stands out strongly from the gold background with gold being the dominant color adopted by the movement. Two of the banners recite a familiar credo from the American Revolution: "Taxation without Representation is Tyranny". The banners are in exceptional condition, with only one showing a significant tear across it from the strain of hanging. Minor wear around the bars holding the material is present but none are completely detached. Due to the grass roots nature of the Woman's Suffrage movement, we believe these to have been hand made.

Shipping: Miscellaneous Collectibles, Smal (view shipping information)

Important notice:</
