Featured in this lot is this Wolf's Head Motor Oil And Lubes five gallon oil canister from the 1950s. Wolf's Head motor oil has a history dating back to 1879 when it was founded in Reno, Pennsylvania. The company initially focused on producing engine lubricants and various motor oil blends. Wolf's Head played a significant role in the "Pennsylvania Crude" phenomenon and was an integral part of the early oil industry. The brand was later acquired by Pennzoil and eventually sold to Amalie Oil Company of Tampa, Florida. Amalie Oil now owns the rights to the Wolf's Head brand. This five gallon oil canister shows a white, black and red color scheme with the front reading, "Heavy Duty-DG-MS S.A.E. 20 / Wolf's Head Motor Oil / Wolf's Head Motor Oil And Lube". The back is marked the same, while one side is marked reading, "Finest of the Fine / 100% Pennsylvania / P.G.C.O.A. Permit No. 6 / 5 U.S. Gal. Net / Wolf's Head Oil Company Incorporated / Oil City, PA., New York, N.Y. Made In U.S.A.". The top shows a nozzle with two sizes of spouts and a spot for filling the canister up. A swinging wood handle is attached to the top for easy carrying. It shows good condition overall with wear present from its age and use over the years, but no major signs of damage is noted. It measures 11 1/8" L x 11 1/8" W x 17" H and weighs 4 pounds and 2 ounces.
