Wolf & Klar Engraved Smith & Wesson 38 Military & Police Model of 1905 4th Change Double Revolver Wh
This was the last variation of the Military & Police Model of 1905 manufactured from 1915 to 1942. The gun reportedly was given to Sheriff L.K. "Sandy" Robinson of Tulare County, California by the sheriff of Fort Worth, Texas in the 1950s when he helped the Texas authorities recover a special breed horse and capture a man that murdered a Texas rancher. Sheriff Robinson was a very well known lawman in California and at one time was the President of the California State Sheriff's Association. Accompanying the revolver are photos of Robinson, a signed letter from J. Edgar Hoover congratulating Robinson on his election as Sheriff's Association President, a letter from a longtime friend and some Western Union telegrams, including one from James Arness (Gunsmoke fame) and Richard Nixon all in an album form. The revolver is nickel finished and features zigzag engraving in floral patterns (the type of engraving done by Wolf & Klar of Texas) on the frame and breech end of the barrel, forward pointing arrows on the cylinder flats and simple designs on the front sight and sides of the top strap. Standard markings and fitted with smooth pearl grips. Complete with a leather Folsom Audley safety holster.
BBL: 4 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 38 S&W special
Finish: nickel
Grips: pearl
Serial Number: 442509
Condition: Excellent. The revolver retains 97% original nickel finish with some wear on the muzzle and a few scattered areas where the finish has flaked and there is now some moderate pitting in those areas. There is some minor "frosting" and some minor scratches and handling marks. With the exception of a large chip on the left heel, the grips are very good with a few tiny holes on the upper right panel and a few minor handling marks. The engraving and marking are crisp and clear. The action is fine. The holster is fair, a good portion of the upper back and the belt loop appear literally chewed off.
