(Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM), 1939) This piece of material is an authentic section from an original dress worn by Judy Garland as the character Dorothy Gail (sic) in the 1939 MGM motion picture production "The Wizard of Oz", production #1060.

An altered pinafore from the MGM auction was re-offered for sale at Phillips Auction house. This same pinafore was resold at Butterfield & Butterfield Auctioneers on July 18, 1994. It was at this time the dress was hand laundered and restored to as close to the original condition as it could be. During that process there was a small semi circular piece removed from the top of the bib front that had been added at one time. This added piece was originally taken from the hem of the pinafore, which was now missing from the pinafore (from the bias cut strip down to the bottom hem was removed). This section cut from the salvaged fabric is the only fabric known to exist from a garment that was worn during filming of this classic film. The 100% cotton material used to make this costume was hand over-dyed to have a pale pink tinge by the MGM wardrobe department. The costume was made by the MGM seamstresses under the direction of the costume designer Gilbert Adrian from his design.

This is the largest piece cut (center) from the original salvaged fabric and extremely rare. Measures approximately 6-11/16 inches by 6-3/4 inches.

This is one of eight pieces of original salvaged fabric from the original dress worn by Judy Garland as Dorothy Gale in the movie. Along with our ScreenUsed COA, this piece includes a second COA signed by Mr. Glenn L. Brown on December 1, 2003. The text on Mr. Brown's COA are the first three paragraphs in this description.
