Wizard of Oz Original Movie Prop Emerald City Jacket
This rare and amazing jacket was made for the original 1939 MGM movie The Wizard the Oz. It was worn by one of the citizens of the Emerald City, and is clearly seen on screen. It is bright green wool, with crème insert and teal green embroidered ribbon around the lapels. The insert and sleeves have metal hook closures. The original Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer label is on the lining, with hand-inked size "42." The label's threading is missing a few spots, but otherwise it is all intact. The lining has some separation at the top, and wear and aging around the shoulders, but the rest is very good. There is a small hole on the lower portion of the right arm, and smudges on the right sleeve and left shoulder, that could probably be cleaned. Otherwise the exterior is excellent. The colors are still strong, and the imaginative design really stands out.

This jacket was purchased at an MGM studio auction over 30 years ago for an undisclosed price. The buyer has owned it ever since, and has kept it well stored.
This is the second jacket of its kind we have seen come up for auction.

Original production items from The Wizard Of Oz are very rare, and considered the "Holy Grail" of Hollywood movie memorabilia. A Wicked Witch of the West hourglass prop sold in 1992 for $60,000. The last jacket we have seen like this sold on auction for $16,000, in March of 2006.

The Wizard of Oz is recognized as one of the most beloved, and most watched films of all time. The studio took full advantage of the vivid new Technicolor film of its day to create a visually enchanting world, bursting with fantastic colors. This visual magic was conveyed in large part by the colorful costumes, which have inspired generations of filmmakers and designers.
This is a rare opportunity to own a part of that magic of Oz, and a piece of motion picture history.
