TLS signed “Winston S. Churchill,” one page, 7.5 x 9.5, personal letterhead, March 28, 1946. to Mr. W. Robinson, Esq. In full, "I write to thank you for your letter of 22 March and for inviting me to become an Honorary Life Member of the West Essex Conservative Club, Limited. I deeply appreciate the compliment you pay me and am very happy to accept this Membership. I should also like to express my pleasure at having been re-elected to the Presidency of the Club. Pray convey my warm thanks to all concerned for their thought of me." Central horizontal vertical and mailing fold, one through a single letter of signature, mild toning, and a punch hole to top left, otherwise fine condition. This letter was written just three weeks after Winston Churchill's famous speech at Westminster College, in Fulton, Missouri, after receiving an honorary degree. In this speech, Churchill coined the term ‘iron curtain’ to describe the line in Europe between self-governing nations of the West and those in Eastern Europe under Soviet Communist control.
