TLS signed “Yours v[ery] t[ruly], Winston S. Churchill,” one page, 6.5 x 8.25, Admiralty Whitehall letterhead, March 16, 1940. Letter to Frederick W. Edwards, in full: "Please accept my thanks for your letter of February 28, and for the volume of Gleig's Essays which belonged to my father, Lord Randolph Churchill. I mush appreciate the kindness which prompted you to send me his book." Churchill writes the salutation in his own hand. Matted with a portrait of Churchill to an overall size of 19.5 x 14. In fine condition, with intersecting folds and light soiling. Accompanied by a full letter of authenticity from JSA, as well as a letter of provenance from the son of the original recipient, in part: "His father Joseph Edwards knew Lord Randolph Churchill and he loaned this book to my grandfather. Then in 1940 my father returned the book to Winston, when he was Lord of the Admiralty." Also accompanied by the two photos of the original recipient as a young boy and as a a soldier in the Royal Flying Corps.
