Winston Churchill Autograph Letter Signed
Winston Churchill Writes to King Edward VIII, Autograph Letter Signed Winston S. Churchill, one page, 5" x 8", England, October 30, 1936. The letter is written on "Chartwell, Westerham, and Kent" stationery, it reads in full: "Sir, your Majesty has always allowed me to send you my books as they appear. I hope therefore that I may be permitted to add this volume to the others about Marlborough as your Majesty has already on the shelves. And I remain, your Majesty's faithful servant and subject." The letter accompanied Marlborough: His Life and Times, Book Two. (Not included). Churchill was Prime Minister of England during World War II and the most dominant British political figure of this century. He was first elected to the House of Commons in 1900, served as the First Lord of the Admiralty and minister of Munitions during World War I, was Chancellor of the Exchequer in the 1920s, and opposed appeasement in the 1930s. He was elected Prime Minister in 1940, and bravely led England through the Battle of Britain. After the war his party was defeated, but he was re-elected Prime Minister from 1951 to 1955. In 1955, he resigned from politics at age 81. Very fine condition.
