Wings (Paramount, 1927). One Sheet (27 X 41 ) St
Wings (Paramount, 1927). One Sheet (27" X 41") Style C. Twenty-eight-year-old director William Wellman, himself a wartime aviator, made this film about two World War I aviators (Buddy Rogers, Richard Arlen), rivals for a girl's love, who become best friends while in the service of the Army Air Corp in France. The "It Girl," Clara Bow, stars as a young ambulance driver from the boy's hometown. A young Gary Cooper also appeared in a small, but crucial role as an aviator and who, by the time the film was released, was already a rising star in his own films. This famous film was the first feature film to win an Academy Award and the only silent film to win Best Picture. One sheet posters for this film are almost non-existent. This is the style C one sheet and as far as we know, is the only time it has come to auction. The poster is shown in the original release pressbook as one of four styles that were printed for this first release of the film. Though the film was re-released a year later with an added soundtrack, no new posters were released at that time, but only snipes which could be used on the original release posters. This beautiful stone lithograph is completely unrestored. Very Fine+.
