Winchester special order 1886 short rifle in .45-65 caliber, 24” octagon barrel, plain trigger, checkered deluxe stock with pistol grip, Lyman sights with no rear sight slot, shotgun butt with steel butt plate, full matted barrel, oil finished wood, sling swivels, engraved and banded like 1 of 1000 at a cost of $2, also engraved Robert M.F. Dable in script on left side of frame, serial number 64802, received in the warehouse February 22, 1892 and shipped from the warehouse February 23, 1892 to order number 19459. The number and unusual combination of features on this model 1886 probably make it unique and one of a kind. The barrel shows 75% to 85% original blue that is evenly tonning and aging with some minor erosion and pinprick pitting just starting. The magazine tube has mostly drifted to brown with traces of blue. The frame shows faint traces of case hardening within a light gray patina. The stocks are very good with tight wood to metal fit and just some minor darkening, slight marks and normal aging. The address and markings are clear and sharp. The action is good and the bore is good with some normal use and wear. The bolt and loading gate show traces of original blue. Keith and Lori Candee collection. Est.: $20,000-$40,000.
