Winchester model 70 XTR Featherweight, .270 caliber, factory presentation, inscribed and presentation grade. Serial #G1779779. The top of the action engraved in block letters, “To Carl E. Press from U. S. R. A. C.” The rifle shows a high polish royal blue finish with select burl wood stocks, fancy checkered in fleur de lis panels, with fancy rosewood cap. Barrel measures 22”, and 43” overall. The action is engine turned and polished. Thecondition is fine to excellent overall, and there is a factory inlaid plaque on right side of the stock inscribed “Pair of guns to a great pair, Carl and Thomas Press, from U. S. Repeating Arms Company, Jan. 9, 1927" (not the manufacture date, but most likely Carl Press’ birthdate). Press was a German industrialist and businessman who purchased a great deal of the factory collection and was for a time their best customer. A number ofhis arms were sold by Butterfields when his collection was dispersed. The rifle is in fine to excellent condition and shows superior quality throughout.
