Winchester model 1894, .30-30 caliber carbine, lever action, 20” barrel. Fully and finely custom engraved by master firearms engraver Howard Dove on custom order. Deluxe fleurde'lis checkered walnut stocks, nickel finish, serial #3524035. Copy of letter from Old Dominion Engraving Co. signed by Howard Dove completely describes the ornate engraved features of this arm which fill nearly three pages. The left center portion of the carbine shows a buffalo attacking an Indian and his pony surrounded by fancy scrollwork. The right side shows Apache Chief with tomahawk and cowboy ready with Winchester to battle the Chief. The balance of metal surfaces are fully engraved on the frame, tang, top of bolt which shows a stylized eagle, cross tomahawks on top of frame with matching scrolls extending half-way down the barrel, at muzzle, on bands, lever, magazine tube, and magazine tube shows vignette on panel with trail skull and Indian weapons. The rifle is nickel plated with blued screws and shows a select burl wood stock. The carbine is fully signed just in front of the trigger. Howard Dove, considered the late master of the 20th century, recently passed away and his works are actively sought after by connoisseurs and collectors.
