Winchester model 1885 high wall rifle, .38-55 caliber, 32” octagon #3 weight barrel, traces of blue and case hardened finish, standard wood stocks, crescent butt, adjustable single-set trigger, serial #39277. The barrel shows 20-30% original drifting blue with some browning and light erosion, pinprick pitting just starting. There is some losses at the edges of finish and some light to moderate pitting. The markings on thebarrel are sharp, frame shows traces of case hardening drifting to a silvery grey patina. The stocks are good to very good with even wear, minor scratches, but generally good overall with great wood to metal fit. Thebuttplate has gone to a dark brown color. The sights are in their proper dovetail. The front sight is a period replacement with fancy base and blade in original dovetail. The action is tight, bore is bright, verygood plus to near fine. A good combination of barrel length and caliber with set trigger. Est: $1,500 - $3,000
