Winchester model 1876 open-top rifle, .45-75 caliber, 28” round barrel, full magazine, rifle butt, set trigger, with ultra-low 3-digit serial number “204”. The barrel and magazine tube show 50-70% original blue thatis drifting at the edges, some minor scratches, and normal aging just starting. The barrel address is sharp, edges crisp, frame shows 20-40% original blue, some erosion and pinprick pitting, but generallygood to very good overall. The hammer, lever, and butt show considerable traces of case hardening within their patina. There is a period replacement long-blade front sight, and slightly later buckhorn rear sight, bothin original dovetails. The wood has been cleaned very lightly and is at least good. The top tang shows a tap-hole for tang sight, which is not included. The rifle also shows early hammer and butt-plate. The action isgood, bore very good. Would be difficult to find a lower number in the 76 opentop series. Note: The bottom front of the receiver is neatly stamped in hand-held die stamps “W. M. T.”, which consignor had always hoped was
