Winchester model 1873 first model special-order rifle, factory extra long 28” round barrel, full magazine, blue and case-hardened finish, rifle butt, serial number 19763. The left side of the receiver is period script engraved PST with a ribbon beneath it. The barrel and magazine tube show 50-70% original blue drifting to a pleasing patina with some scattered erosion and pinprick pitting just starting. The frame shows 20-40% case hardening drifting to a grayish brown with some light pitting and erosion just starting, but some very visible case hardening. The hammer and lever show 30-50% case hardening within a patina. The loading gate shows 30-50% thinning blue. The original thumbprint dust over has gone to patina. The original varnish stocks are good to very good with some minor dings, mars, scratches. A slight compression crack by the tang, some marks around the tow, but generally good to very good overall. The buttplate shows traces of case hardening drifting to silver. The action is tight, the bore is very good plus and may clean even better. Few special order 73’s are found with case-hardened frames.
