Winchester model 1873 First Model with raised thumbprint dustcover. 24” round barrel, full magazine, rifle butt, serial #2488. This is one of the highest numbers known in the first series with the raised thumbprint dustcover. The rifle remains in original good to very good condition with considerable traces of blue mixed in with the browning patina on the barrel. Some scattered light to moderate erosion and pinprick pitting, good barreladdress, good edges. The frame and dust cover show a grayish patina with faint traces of finish in protected areas. Some light to moderate erosion and pinprick pitting. The raised thumbprint dust cover is good andmatches in appearance. (Note: These are often replaced and will fetch $750 - $1,000 by themselves). The wood is good with some weathering, shrinking, and exposure but still fits well and matches the appearance nicely. Action is good, bore fair to good with some slightly eroded areas.
