Winchester model 1873 .44-40 caliber first model saddle ring carbine, serial #10080, The carbine remains in original good to very good condition, 20-40% original blue, drifting to brownish patina with some scattered light to moderate erosion and some spotting on the top of barrel. The markings are sharp, the edges fairly crisp. The original early carbine folding rear sight and barrel band front sight are retained along with correct impressed thumbprint dust cover. The hammer shows considerable case hardening, at least 30-50%. The lever shows traces of case hardening. The loading gate shows 40-60% dulling original blue. The stocks are fair to good with some large dings, gouges, a couple of small repairs, and some carry and use. The action is tight, the bore is very good plus to near fine and still bright. An exceptional first model carbine made in time for the Little Big Horn and frontier era of late 1874 to 75. Est: $6,500 - $8,500
