Winchester model 1866 saddle ring carbine, period scroll engraved with Mexican snake and eagle on left side. Serial #36882. The barrel and magazine tube show a dark grey to brown patina, light to slightly heavy pitting and erosion. The barrel address is faintly visible. The carbine bands and early rear sight are retained. The frame is good with some even wear and medium patina. There is some prying at the sideplates, the engravingis definitely genuine to the 19th century. The stocks are well worn, with small cracks, weathering, scorching, carry, and use and are rated fair. The buttplate shows a heavy and dark patina showing matching engraving. Theloading gate shows original blue. The action is working, the bore rough. The carbine is still in rimfire. A 66 with a lot of character that went South and was used on the Southwestern frontier.
