Winchester carbine, 2nd model, .44-40 caliber, relic condition, traces of original nickel plate, fully wrapped stock, with period scabbard. Old collector states this carbine was traded with Apache Indians nearthe Mexico/US border. The carbine shows a dark brown patina finish, light to heavy pitting, some slight cleaning in the area of the barrel address. The wrap on the stock is definitely Indian and genuine to the period. There is some faint traces of nickel on the lever and other areas indicating originally full nickel. The stock is very dried out beneath the leather and the carbine shows hard frontier wear, but is working. Bore isshot out, and generally in rough condition. With original to the period leather scabbard that has always been with it and is now fragmentary. A frontier relic with the right kind of look. Note: Serial number not visible due to the wrap on the stock. Est: $2,500 - $5,000
