This Special order Model 1886 is in very good condition. Serial number 110250 has a 26″ half round, half octagonal barrel and a half-length magazine. There is a bone bead hunting front sight and three leaf express rear sight. Standard receiver with tang mounted peep sight. The stock is walnut with a checkered pistol grip, Winchester hard grip cap, smooth steel buttplate, including a checkered forend with nose cap. Accompanied with Buffalo Historical Center letter confirming the attributes of this gun as 45-70, half octagon barrel, plain trigger, checkered stock, pistol grip, shotgun butt, half mag (4 cartridges), Winchester express sights, received in warehouse September 2, 1896, shipped from warehouse September 3, 1896, returned and repaired November 7, 1896 and November 8, 1898. The barrel displays 95% of the original blue, minor faint wear on the muzzle and on sharp edges of octagon with a few tiny nicks and scratches. Receiver shows 95% strong, original case colors with very minor surface oxidation on left side and a few faint scratches. Hammer and lever show close to all of its original case colors. The stock has good checkering, there is a small semi-circle crack, approximately ½ inch diameter that follows the grain just beneath the rear peep sight on the left side of the stock. Buttplate shows strong, restored factory quality blue. Forend is sound with good checkering, with minor nicks and a scratch. The rifle is mechanically sound but has not been inspected internally.
