* Winchester Pre-War Model 70 bolt action rifle, .220 Swift cal., serial #23742. The rifle is in overall very good condition with a 26” blued barrel. The barrel and receiver retain nearly all of their blued finish with only edge wear evident on the magazine base plate. There are two screws forward of the receivers front ring where the rifle has been previously drilled and tapped. The rifle features a ramp front sight with the rear sight having been removed and the dovetail plugged. The checkered wood stock is in overall very good condition showing small mars and compressions consistent with field use. The rifle ends with a checkered steel butt plate showing significant blue finish and includes a period leather sling. The rifle is topped with Bausch and Lomb adjustable proprietary mounts and a Balvar 8 variable power 2.5 x 8 scope. The bore is very good, the action is crisp and markings sharp. An early and desirable pre-war Model 70 in a great caliber, manufactured in 1939. Est.: $700-$1,400.
