Winchester Model 70 Bolt Action Carbine in 375 H&H Magnum

Manufactured in 1938 (receiver). The 20 inch barrel features a hooded ramp front sight and a filler block in the rear dovetail slot. The left side of the barrel has standard Winchester markings followed by "375 MAGNUM", the first style caliber designation stamp for the 375 H&H Magnum, and the right side has the two line address marking. In the book THE MODEL 70 1937-1964, author Dean Whitaker notes that he was unable to confirm reported Model 70 Winchester carbines in 375 H&H Magnum. The Winchester factory style proof is stamped on the left side of the barrel and receiver at the breech. The Type I receiver with a cloverleaf tang is tapped for scope mounting at the front and has a Lyman sight on the left rear side (stock inletted). Pre-war safety, polished bolt numbered to gun, solid bolt knob and sling swivels. The straight comb pistol grip stock features checkering and a Winchester solid recoil pad.

Very fine as professionally refurbished/restored. The carbine retains nearly all of the blue finish showing some minor muzzle wear. The oiled, lightly sanded stock is fine with some of the magazine well exposed on right side crisp checkering on the balance. Mechanically excellent.
