Winchester Model 70 Bolt Action Carbine in 32 Winchester Special

Manufactured in 1941 (receiver). This carbine is chambered in 32 Winchester Special. This caliber is not listed in Dean Whitaker's study, THE MODEL 70 WINCHESTER 1937-1964. The Model 70 was a very popular rifle with many custom variations having been manufactured. Whitaker notes that "the versatility of the rifle gave rise to many factory-sponsored or factory-sanctioned experimental chamberings and configurations." Factory records are, as Whitaker states, "rather scanty or, in some cases, non-existent." Even today there could still be undocumented variations of the Model 70. Hooded ramp front sight and elevation adjustable rear sight on a barrel marked with the Winchester legend followed by "32 W.S." on the left side. The Winchester factory oval proof is stamped on the left side of the barrel and receiver at the breech. The receiver is tapped for scope mounting at the front and sight mounting on the left rear side. Pre-war safety, polished bolt numbered to gun, cloverleaf receiver tang and sling swivels. The straight comb pistol grip stock features checkering and is fitted with a checkered steel buttplate.

Very fine as professionally refurbished/restored. The carbine retains 98% of the blue finish showing some minor thinning at the muzzle. The stock is very good with a long hairline crack near the receiver tang. The checkering is crisp overall. Mechanically excellent.
