Winchester Model 70 Bolt Action Carbine in 219 Zipper

Manufactured in 1936. It is chambered in 219 Zipper, a caliber that Dean Whitaker lists as a reported non-standard chambering in his study THE MODEL 70 WINCHESTER 1937-1964. According to Whitaker, non-standard chamberings are believed to have been for experimental purposes or to special order, with "very few" sold to the public. Hooded ramp front sight and elevation adjustable rear sight on a barrel marked with the Winchester legend followed by "219 ZIPPER" on the left side and the two line address on the right side. The receiver is tapped for scope mounting at the front and sight mounting on the left rear side. Polished bolt numbered to gun, cloverleaf receiver tang, pre-war safety and sling swivels. The straight comb pistol grip stock features checkering and a checkered steel buttplate.

Very fine as professionally reworked/restored. The carbine retains nearly all of the blue finish showing a few mild scratches on the buttplate. The stock is also very fine with a few light handling marks. The checkering is crisp overall. Mechanically excellent.
