Offered for sale is a Winchester Model 70 30-06 SPRG. Pre-64 rifle. This rifle features a blue steel finish, 24" barrel, Walnut stock, leather sling, skip line checkering, and scope rings. Pre-1964 Winchester model 70s are sought after rifle due several desirable features (Mauser-type controlled round feed, cut checkering) that the post-1964 version did not. This barrel shows a fair amount of the original bluing left, the receiver shows a matte blue finish with some loss, wood shows handling wear, and the floor plate show bluing loss. The rifle as a whole shows wear indicative with age. Curio & Relics rifle. FFL transfer or NICS background check required. It measures 44 3/4" L. Serial number is 64010. Rifle was manufactured in 1947. The rifle shows the “doll head” or “clover leaf” frame tang and early “clam shell” first or second release short safety which swings to the right. The safety does not have the vertical extension like later models. This originally would have had the Lyman side mount sight, as shown by the two mounting holes and the cutout in the side of the stock. This currently shows early scope mounts along the top.
