This is a custom pre-64 Winchester model 70 target rifle chambered in 30-06. Manufactured 1946. Built by Don Kaufmann of Durango, Colo. Don, a machinist and tool & die maker, started building rifles in the 1950's. Eventually he focused primarily on bench-rest rifles for competitions. This rifle was used by his son Pat in the 1961 at the 1,000 yard National matches in Camp Perry as a member of the Colorado high-power team. He also used this rifle at other .30 caliber competitions for several years in Colorado. It features a 28" Douglas premium heavy barrel with a Al Freeland Superior Front Tube Sight, circle with red background insert, Redfield fully adjustable aperture sight installed on rear of receiver and two scope bases installed on barrel and chamber. manual flip safety, hinged floor plate, polished bolt, extractor and swept back bolt handle. Walnut pistol-grip stock with 'beavertail forearm. accessory rail, Pachmayr thin recoil pad with spacers and sling swivels. Bore is excellent, action is smooth, wood is near excellent with some very minor scratches/dings and the blue is about 95% with some handling wear on the floorplate. Barrel stamped "Don Kaufmann Durango, Colo". Very Accurate rifle. This rifle has been well cared for. Comes with paperwork to confirm the above history.
