#23482 ‘Custom Built Grade’ Engraved side-by-side double barrel boxlock shotgun chambered for 2 3/4" 16 gauge shells. Manufactured in New Haven, CT circa 1954 as a two barrel set for the Abercrombie and Fitch Company of New York, New York. Features a blued refinish, jeweled barrel flats & water table, #4 pattern hand engraving with game scenes & scroll, 28" barrels with matted solid rib & fixed WS-2 / WS-1 chokes, selective ejectors, red Bradley front sight, steel mid-bead, gold single trigger with push button barrel selector, automatic tang safety with gold filled “SAFE”, knurled top lever, gloss finished walnut beavertail forend with deluxe grade pattern checkering & ebony inlay at the tip, and straight grip shoulder stock with an inlaid gold escutcheon engraved “M/H/B”, spacer and leather wrapped recoil pad. Stock dimensions – drop at comb 1 3/8”, drop at heel 1 7/8 ”, length of pull 14” and neutral cast. Matching serial numbers are found on the receiver, forend, forend metal and on both sets of barrels. Includes: a set of 28” barrel with matted solid rib, ejectors & fixed Full / Mod chokes, and a Cody letter detailing factory records & order sheet details. Also Includes a leather wrapped partitioned trunk case with Winchester 21 Label and “A.F & Co” marked snap caps & oiler bottle. Shotgun retains approximately 99% of its refinish blue showing superficial handling marks and a minute amount of light surface rust on the left barrel near the muzzle. The second set off barrels have 99%+ finish with no observed rust and excellent bores. The action is tight with the top lever standing far right of center, the bores are excellent / bright and the walnut stocks are very good with minor imperfections & small repair to the left side of the forend tip. Note – The Cody letter does not mention engraving however it appears factory done at some point and the initials on the gold escutcheon have been changed since originally ordered.
Condition is near NRA Excellent as restored.
