Factory refinished & gold inlaid side-by-side double barrel boxlock shotgun chambered for 2 3/4" & 3” 12 gauge shells. Manufactured in New Haven, CT circa 1946 as a ‘Standard Grade’ for S. K. Farrington and subsequently returned to the factory in 1968 for repairs & embellishments. The accompanying Cody letter states this gun & #24912 “will constitute a matched pair” with identical embellishments. Features a blued refinish with gold inlaid Scotch grouse, pintail duck & quail on the receiver / trigger plate & “S / K / F / 1” on the triggerguard , 26" barrels with matted solid rib & fixed Mod / Full chokes, selective ejectors, Bradley ivory front sight, steel mid-bead, single trigger with push button barrel selector, automatic tang safety with gold filled "SAFE", knurled top lever, gloss finished walnut beavertail forend with kidney pattern checkering and straight grip shoulder stock with a leather faced red recoil pad. Stock dimensions – drop at comb 1 5/8”, drop at heel 1 15/16 ”, length of pull 13 3/4” and cast-off approx. ¼”. Matching serial numbers are found on the receiver, barrels, forend and forend metal. Includes a Cody letter stating it was “Made for: Mr. S. K. Farrington of East Hampton, Long Island” and detailing its order & repair order details. Also includes a canvas wrapped, partitioned trunk case with snap caps, oiler bottle & cleaning tools. Selwyn Kip Farrington 1904-1983 is most known for his writings and big game fishing. He served as fishing editor of Field & Stream from 1937 to 1972 and was friends with Ernest Hemingway and Alfred Glassell. He wrote over 20 books including “Ducks Came Back, the story of Ducks Unlimited” and “Fishing with Hemingway and Glassell”. Shotgun retains approximately 99% of its refinish blue showing superficial handling marks with no major wear observed. The action is tight with the top lever standing right of center, the bores are excellent / bright and the walnut stocks are near excellent with minor imperfections.
