Winchester Model 1895 Lever Action Rifle, #68982, .30-40 Krag cal., 28'' round ''nickel steel'' barrel with threaded muzzle; barrel with a Sheard front sight blade pinned to fixed base, and a semi-buckhorn rear sight. Straight grip walnut stock with crescent steel buttplate; Schnabel forend with ebony insert at the tip. Top of receiver and barrel are Winchester proofed. Upper tang with three-line ''U.S. Pat. Off'' markings; left side of receiver with standard two-line ''Aug. 6, 1907'' last patent date; caliber on the barrel is marked as ''30 U.S.'' Mfg'd 1913. Rifle rates as good to very good overall. Barrel retains approx. 70% thinning and lightly toning factory blue; 30%-35% on the receiver and lever with the balance being a combination silvery gray with some cloudy brown highlights. Buttplate has worn mostly bright with some dark spotting. Maker's marks are clear. Rear sight with a silver solder repair at the mid-point. Wood fits tight at the adjoining surfaces, with general dings and scratches; buttstock with thinning to an older added finish. Crisp action with a smooth hammer and trigger; bore is fine with good rifling. Est.: $800-$1,200. (C&R)
