This is a Winchester Repeating Arms Co. Model 1895 lever action repeating rifle in a .30-06 GOV (.30 GOV. ’06.) caliber. The rifle is an excellent Saddle Ring Carbine typically known for use by the US Cavalry. The rifle has a serial number of 85290B and was manufactured in 1915. The Winchester Model 1895 has the distinction of being the first Winchester lever-action rifle to load from a box magazine instead of a tube under the barrel. The Winchester Model 1895 was Theodore Roosevelt’s favorite firearm called it his "medicine gun." Teddy Roosevelt used a Model 1895 in the Spanish American War and would have been photographed holding it on San Juan Hill if he hadn’t given it to a soldier without a weapon. This rifle shows all matching numbers with overall good condition for its age with much of the original finish retained and normal handling wear. Very desirable rare rifle.
