Winchester Model 1892 special order rifle in .44-40 caliber with 24” octagon barrel, full magazine, rifle butt, checkered pistol grip, standard grade stocks, sling swivel studs, Lyman tang sight and folding beech type front sight. The rifle remains in very good plus to near fine condition showing 85% to 95% original blue with some slight drifting at the edges of the barrel and a couple areas of erosion and cleaning on the left side of the frame. There is some pitting that is minor in the area that was cleaned. The front and rear sight are in the original dovetails. The stocks are very good plus with 75% to 85% original varnish and sharp checkering. Thepistol grip cap shows Winchester markings. The hammer and lever show 75% to 85% of their original case hardening just darkening slightly. The bolt and loading gate show 80% to 90% thinning original blue. The action isgood and tight and the bore is bright to near excellent condition. Serial number 97036 made about 1896-97. Est.: $3,000-$6,000.
