Winchester Model 1892 Lever Action Rifle, as converted for movie use, #722072, .44-40 cal., 24'' round barrel, nickel-plated finish, perchbelly smooth walnut stock, with crescent buttplate. Rifle has been converted to appear like a Henry rifle with the removal of the forend and cap, then brass plated and later nickel plated, as often seen in many Hollywood productions. It was at one point sent to England, possibly during the early 1940s, when there was a large push for the American population to donate arms for the pending cross-channel invasion. Large studios were especially generous to Britain's plight. Rifle is marked with English proofmarks to receiver and barrel, pressure-test marks, as well as ''Not English Make'' stampings. Left side of buttstock is marked with large ''F.M.''; right side with small ''cb/53''. Area below serial number is marked ''E.E.'', as often seen on American commercial pistols exported to England during the same period. Rifles modified in this fashion can be seen in such movies as ''Heaven's Gate'', Shenandoah'', and ''How the West was Won''. Mfg'd in 1913. Condition is fine to excellent as modified with light toning to rear portion of receiver. Thinning to varnish with scuffs and scratches to buttstock. Action is crisp, bore is good. Est.: $1,000-$2,000. (C&R)
