Winchester Model 1886 special order carbine in .40-82 caliber with fancy deluxe stock, 16” magazine, no ring, received in the warehouse September 23, 1893 shipped from the warehouse September 23, 1893 to order number 23992. This carbine remains in original very good condition showing 50% to 70% original blue on barrel evenly drifting and toning with some areas of pitting and erosion in two spots towards the end of the barrel near the muzzle. The barrel address and caliber markings are sharp and clear. The frame shows strong traces of case hardening within a silvery gray patina perhaps as much as 10%. The butt stock and forend show a pronounced Burl wood grain with some dings, mars, scratches and evidence of use but are still at least good to very good. This Winchester shows a carbine butt, carbine rear sight and carbine barrel band. The markings are good, the action is tight and the bore shows a great deal of use and is only fair but no pitting and it has been shot a lot. Factory letter confirms features and it is rare to have deluxe wood and 16” magazine on any carbine. Keith and Lori Candee Collection. Est.: $4,000-$8,000.
