Winchester Model 1886 rifle in .38-70 caliber with 26” octagon barrel, full magazine, rifle butt received in the warehouse May 20, 1895 shipped from the warehouse November 29, 1897 with one other model 1886 to order number 23938 with caliber, barrel length and plain trigger confirmed by factory letter, serial number 99709. This rifle remains in very good plus to near fine original condition with approximately 35% to 50% original blue on barrel evenly toning and going to a patina with some minor staining and erosion just starting. The barrel address and caliber marking are clear and there are some compression marks and scratches on the area of the breech just behind the sight. The magazine tube shows 75% to 85% original blue. The frame shows 50% to 70% bright case hardening drifting to a silvery gray at the edges with some very colorful areas. The hammer and lever shows 30% to 50% case hardening that is dulling slightly and the frame shows some minor erosion and aging. The stocks are very good plus with some dings, mars and very small losses at the edges. The correct sights are retained and the action is tight and the bore is very good plus and still bright.
