Winchester Model 1886 lever action rifle in scarce .38-70 caliber, 26” round barrel, half magazine, plain trigger, blued finish, shipped from the factory 10/ 4/1909 to order number 225398D, serial number 145835. Factory information sheet confirms caliber, barrel, trigger, magazine and shipment. The rifle remains in good to very good condition showing 50% to 70% original blue that is toning and aging naturally with slight losses at the edges and normal scratches. Slight erosion and pinprick pitting just starting. The rear sight has been removed and a plug placed in the dovetail and an original to the period Lyman type receiver sight has been added. The rifle also shows sling swivel eyelets. The stocks are good to very good with considerable original varnish, some minor dings, mars, scratches and just normal use. The wood remains in at least very good plus condition. The markings are sharp and the action is crisp. The bore is bright and at least very good with just normal aging and wear.
