Winchester Model 1886 carbine with military musket type forend similar to 1876 model chambered in .45-70 caliber, serial number 19469 with factory letter confirming caliber and carbine received in the warehouse July 26, 1888 shipped to from the warehouse July 27, 1888 to order number 9220. These rare 86 carbines with military configurations are thought to have been an attempt by Winchester to secure a contract from the Royal Northwest Mounted Police who used the similar model 1876 configuration. This carbine remains in original very good condition with 60% to 80% original blue on the barrel that is toning and aging naturally with some scattered light to moderate erosion and pinprick pitting. The barrel address is sharp and clear. The frame shows 40% to 60% plus bright original case hardening where protected by the original factory lacquer and some light to slightly heavy pitting where the metal was affected by penetration thru the lacquer by corrosion. The butt plate shows traces of case hardening and some pitting. The stocks are very good plus with a few minor dings, mars and military storage type scratches. The lever and loading gate show most of their bright original blue and the interior is bright and near excellent with almost no use. Keith and Lori Candee collection. Est.: $10,000-$20,000.
