Winchester Model 1886 Takedown Lever Action Rifle
This is a very fine example of a Winchester Model 1886 Take-Down Rifle that was manufactured in 1908. The rifle has a blue barrel, half-magazine, forearm cap and receiver. The hammer and loading lever have a casehardened finish. The walnut stock and forearm have a varnished finish and the stock is fitted with a hard rubber, checkered, shotgun buttplate embossed with the round Winchester Repeating Arms logo. The 24-inch round barrel has the standard Lyman "Hunting Front" sight with ivory insert and a sporting style rear sight. The left side of the barrel is roll-stamped: "-NICKEL STEEL BARREL- / ESPECIALLY FOR SMOKELESS POWDER" in two line below the rear sight followed by the caliber designation "33 W.C.F.". The oval Winchester "W/P" proofmarks are stamped on the top of the barrel and receiver. The upper receiver tang is roll-stamped: "MODEL 1886/ -WINCHESTER- / TRADE MARK REG.IN U.S.PAT. OFF." in three lines. The serial number and 1884 and 1885 patent dates are stamped on the lower receiver tang.

Very fine. The rifle retains approximately 90% of the original blue finish overall. Wear is concentrated primarily on the forend cap and the receiver extension which have faded to a blue gray patina. The casehardened loading lever and hammer have approximately 95% of the original case colors with some slight fading. The loading gate retains about 50% of the delicate, niter blue, finish. The stock and forearm are in excellent condition with most of the original varnish finish and only very minor handling wear. This is an excellent example of a Model 1886 Take-Down Rifle
