This is an example of a Winchester Model 1886 Lever Action Rifle that was manufactured in 1893. The top of the barrel ahead of the rear sight is marked "MANUFACTURED BY THE- / -WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A.-" and "40-65 W.C.F." at the breech. The 1884 and '85 patent dates and the serial number are marked on the lower tang. The barrel is equipped with a dovetailed Winchester Express front sight with white bead and there is a factory blank in the rear sight dovetail, with a factory installed tang mounted peep sight. Blue barrel, magazine tube and bolt, with casehardened finish on the remaining metal surfaces, full magazine tube and mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with a steel end cap and crescent buttplate. .

Condition: Fine. The barrel and magazine show streaks of original blue finish, (50%), mixed with smooth brown patina. The bolt and loading gate retain 95% original blue finish. The receiver retains 40% original case colors, brightest in protected areas and on the lower tang, mixed with smooth mottled gray patina. The case colors on the forearm cap and lever are faded but case colors remain visible. The buttplate has a gray and dark patina with some minor pitting. The wood is very good to excellent condition with most of the original varnish remaining and scattered minor dings and dents. A small notch has been neatly cut out at the front tip of the comb for the peep sight when it's folded down.
