Winchester Model 1886 Lever Action Rifle with Desirable Casehardened Receiver

This is a very fine example of a Deluxe Winchester Model 1886 Lever Action Rifle that was manufactured in mid 1895. This rifle is all original and untouched it has the highly desirable and very fragile color casehardened finish on the receiver, forearm cap, hammer, lever and buttplate. It is fitted with a 26 inch full octagon barrel, full length magazine, breech bolt and loading gate, all having a deep Winchester blued finish overall. The stock and forearm are straight grain walnut with a varnish finish. The barrel is fitted with the standard sporting rear sight with the nickel-silver blade front sight. The top barrel flat is roll-stamped with the two-line legend "-MANUFACTURED BY THE-/-WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A.-" ahead of the rear sight. The caliber designation "40-65" is stamped on the top barrel flat just in front of the receiver. The top tang is stamped with the first pattern markings of: "-MODEL 1886-", with the lower tang stamped with the two-line Winchester patent dates of: 1884/1885 behind the trigger with the script serial number, "97852" behind the lever.

Very fine with 95% plus of the color casehardened finish overall with beautiful original blue/gold color hues on the sides of the receiver, and cocking lever with the balance having faded and turning a shiny, silvery gray patina. The barrel, magazine tube, breech bolt and trigger all have 95% original blue remaining overall with some spotting (literally) on the right front side of the barrel and upper magazine tube, where some cleaner dripped on the metal surfaces. The stock and forend both have 95% of their original varnish, both showing minor handling marks and light dings here and there with an excellent wood to metal fit. These later production Winchester rifle with any color case hardened finish remaining are very rare and one with this much finish is exceptionally rare and highly desirable. A fabulous example of an all original Winchester Model 1886 Lever Action Rifle with desirable case hardened receiver in beautiful condition.
