This is a solid example of a Winchester Model 1886 Lever Action Rifle that was manufactured in 1893. The top of the barrel ahead of the rear sight is marked "MANUFACTURED BY THE- / -WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A.-" and "45-90 W.C.F." at the breech. The 1884 and '85 patent dates and the serial number are marked on the lower tang. The barrel is equipped with a dovetailed Marble's No. 2 with an ivory bead front sight and adjustable semi buck horn rear sporting sight. Blue barrel, full magazine tube and bolt, with casehardened finish on the remaining metal surfaces, and mounted with a checkered walnut forearm and straight grip stock with a steel end cap and crescent buttplate.
BBL: 26 inch octagon
Stock: walnut
Gauge: 45-90 WCF
Finish: blue/casehardened
Grips:
Serial Number: 76242
Condition: Fine as period customized (stock checkered). The barrel retains 70% original thin blue finish with areas faded to a smooth plum patina. The bolt retains 95% thinning original blue. The receiver and hammer retain traces of original case colors with a smooth brownish gray patina on the balance. The lever has a smooth gray patina with strong traces of original case colors in protected areas. The buttplate has a smooth gray patina with a small amount of minor spotting on the toe. The checkering has been period recut and remains very good with a couple of small minor gouges on the right side of the stock and overall some scattered minor dents and scratches.
