This Winchester Model 1886 Deluxe Lever Action Rifle includes a factory letter that states this rifle was shipped from the Winchester warehouse on June 15, 1888. The letter describes the piece as a "Rifle", caliber "45-90" with "octagon barrel", "plain pistol grip" and "Lyman sights". The rifle has a 26", octagon barrel, full-length magazine and fancy walnut, checkered, pistol grip stock and forearm. The stock has a checkered hard rubber shotgun buttplate embossed with the Winchester logo and ebony inlay on the pistol grip. The barrel and magazine are blued and the forearm cap, receiver, hammer and loading lever have a color casehardened finish. The barrel is fitted with a dovetail mounted, nickel-silver front sight and sporting style rear sight. A Lyman folding combination peep sight is mounted on the receiver tang. The top barrel flat is roll-stamped with the legend: "-MANUFACTURED BY THE-/-WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN CONN.U.S.A.-" ahead of the rear sight and the caliber designation "45-90 WCF" behind it. The model designation on the upper receiver tang is covered by the rear sight . The lower receiver tang is marked: "-PAT. OCT.14.1884./JAN.20.1885." in two lines behind the trigger with the serial number "19318" behind the tang screws. The highly figured, fancy walnut stock and forearm appear to be original to the rifle.
